Access your meter data

Our digital meters, also known as ‘smart’ meters, are helping to modernise Victoria’s electricity network – by reducing costs and laying the foundation for a more energy-efficient future.

Roll-out of this technology is paving the way for ‘smart grids’, which are helping us to manage the complex energy flows generated by solar power systems and other renewable energy sources.

Digital meters record electricity usage by the half-hour and transmit this information back to us four times a day. As a result, we’re better able to monitor and manage your supply, and respond more quickly if there’s an outage.

Accessing your meter data

There are two ways for you to access you meter data:

1. myHomeEnergy

myHomeEnergy is a free web portal that displays data from your smart meter in a graphical way, and allows you to extract your data in a format that is compatible with online comparison tools, including Victorian Energy Compare. The data in the portal is the same as the data we provide to your retailer and shows your electricity usage in half-hour intervals. myHomeEnergy is available to eligible residential and small business customers within the AusNet Services network.

To register for myHomeEnergy, or to login, please visit our online portal.

2. Meter access

Although digital meters are usually read remotely, AusNet Services will always need physical access at times for maintenance and auditing purposes. To assist with this, we ask that you provide clear and safe access to your meter at all times.

Some helpful tips for maintaining meter access are provided below.

  • Notify your electricity retailer if there are any specific considerations for meter access, or if you have a power industry lock (which we can open with a master key).
  • Regularly prune trees or shrubs that may restrict access to your meter. Ensure gates on your property are easy to open.
  • Remove personal locks on your gate or meter box.
  • Keep dogs or other pets away from your meter.

For frequently asked questions and information on how to read your meter, please see the Metering section on our FAQs page.
