Electrical Vehicle Trial

We are seeing an increasing number of customers with Electric Vehicles (EVs) on our electricity network. To ensure that we have a good understanding of the impacts that the smart charging capability of EVs has on our network, we have launched a trial in partnership with ev.energy and AGL.

The trial uses a smart charging mobile application (developed by ev.energy) that allow us to determine the optimal time to charge your EV (e.g. we could delay charging to ‘off peak’ times of the evening or during short term load peaks).

This is a 4 month trial open to AusNet Services electricity customers who own a Tesla electric vehicle. Eligible customers will receive a $500 Mastercard Gift Card for their participation in the trial.

If you are interested in signing up for this trial, fill out the form below or if you would like further information, please contact electricvehicles@ausnetservices.com.au.

FAQ

  • Why should I participate?
Participants will be incentivised with a $500 Mastercard Gift Card for their participation in the trial. The smart charging application will be able to optimise your electric vehicle charging against a number of factors including cost and allow you to track your energy usage. Participating in this trial will allow AusNet Services to better prepare the network for increasing electric vehicle numbers. We believe in empowering our customers and are committed to building a smarter more efficient grid that will support the shift to a low carbon future.
  • I have an EV that is not a Tesla, can I participate?
Unfortunately the ev.energy software is only compatible with Tesla vehicles at the moment. Some additional smart charger brands are supported, so if you own a smart charger you can check whether the charger brand and model are supported by emailing the trial contact below.
  • Do I have to live within the AusNet Services Network Area?
Yes, only participants within the AusNet Services distribution area are eligible to participate. Please check the map to see whether you are eligible. . You can also check your postcode directly here.
  • How does the ev.energy app work?
The ev.energy app gains access to your Tesla car management system and can issue commands to start charging, stop charging or check battery status. The app will always make sure your car is charged to your specifications (e.g. fully charged by morning) but may stop or start charging along the way to avoid times when demand for electricity on the network is high or when electricity prices are high.
  • Who will gain access to my charging data?
When you sign up to the ev.energy app you will be giving permission for ev.energy to supply your charging data to AusNet Services and AGL. This will include the time, duration and approximate location of the charging sessions. Your data will be managed in accordance with AusNet Services privacy policy and only used for the purpose of research regarding electric vehicle energy use. No personal information will be shared between participants and only aggregated data will be used in any published summaries.
  • Can I see the results from the trial?
After the trial is complete, participants will be supplied with a summary of the trial results. No personal information will be shared between participants and only aggregated data will be used in this summary.
